Hipstamatics

Hipstamatics are a party band with a difference. They take iconic well known tunes and reinterpret them into an authentic vintage soul/funk style. Elements of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin and James Brown are evident in the sound. Comprising three lead vocals and a horn section this 9 piece band will surely get a party started. Dillon “the Rooster” Riesterer - Vocals Dillon is the Hipstamatics frontman, and as a jack-of-all-trades musician can be seen singing lead, playing keys and percussion with the band. Victor Hawkins-Sulfa - Vocals Victor Hawkins-Sulfa was born singing. Naturally introverted, he was encouraged to sing publicly at age 15 igniting his love of the art. Victor credits his development to this encouragement, honoring this by aspiring to greatness. He has sung for Vince Harder (three years), Erakah, J Williams, Dane Rumble and Stan Walker’s (2011 NZ Tour). He became “The Levites Session Band” staple vocalist (four years). His work includes featuring on J Williams’ track “Beautiful”(Young Love), co-writing The Chinga Styles (64D – Mc Yoyo’s) single “Let me show you”, Sola Rosa’s “Misunderstood” and as a vocalist/vocal arranger for artists such as Grace Ikenasio, Bex Nabouta (Sassy and the Pocketbook), Vivah, Chinga Style (64D) and L.A Mitchell. Molee Lauititi - Vocals “Princess Molee” is our resident Soul Diva. Molee is a natural and brings a warm on-stage X Factor to Hipstamatics. Liam Pram - Guitar Liam plays Guitar for Hipstamatics while studying Fine Art at Elam in Auckland. An all-round creative, Liam brings his unique style to the Hipstamatics. Hannah Elise - Bass Hannah is our resident “Female Bootsy” on bass guitar. Hannah first played guitar from age 6 and made the transition to Bass at 15. Self taught whilst being home schooled, she’s been playing for 5 years. After various bands she now resides with Hipstamatics as well as being an in-demand sub for other working bands. Thabani Gapara - Saxophone Zimbabwean born and raised saxophonist Thabani was introduced to the saxophone at age 17 and has been playing since. He has had the pleasure to play as a member in several musical projects in Zimbababwe, South Africa and now New Zealand. His passion for collaboration has seen him work in several NZ artists including K-one, Batucada Sound Machine, MaVelle, The Leveites session band, Stan Walker, House of Shem and Three Houses Down to mention but a few. Cam Sangster - Drums Cam studied at Massey University achieving a Batchelor of Music Degree, Majoring in Jazz Performance and graduating in 2012. He has also studied composition, arranging, theory, improvisation and Latin styles. The moment Cam touched a drum kit at age 10 he knew he had found his passion in life. With 12 years drumming experience he is without doubt a very talented performer. Jerome Drumm - Trumpet. Jerome is by day a mild mannered Insurance Salesman, by night the party boy of the band. He plays a mean horn as well! Matt Lorden - Keys Matt has played piano for 20 years. He is classically trained and was introduced to Jazz through the Northcote College Big Band where he was mentored by Phil Broadhurst. Jonathan Brittain - Trombone Jonathan first picked up trombone at age 11 and hasn’t looked back. Originally from Perth, Western Australia, he has recently moved to N.Z. seeking musical adventure. An experienced performer, Jonathan has shared the stage with Fred Wesley, Stan Walker, House of Shem and others too numerous to mention.

Testimonials

"This band is truly a crowd pleaser. The best feedback I’ve received from any band so far, we’d be happy to have these guys back again!"

"I thoroughly recommend Hipstamatics for weddings and events. They were very professional and easy to work with at the wedding. Punctual, well organized and came to inspect the Venue before the event. They set up in plenty of time and sound checked, ready to go, well ahead of schedule. The band was a huge hit with the all the guests, everyone hit the dancefloor and stayed there all night!"

"Professional, on time, polite and sounded fantastic. Hipstamatics just blew us all away. Recommend them to anyone!"

"Hipstamatics embrace the current vogue of funking up pop and soul covers from ‘Creep’ and ‘Misty Frequencies’ to ‘Hotel California’. With two male vocalists and one female vocalist they have a knack of creating arrangements that surprise, and in cases surpass, the originals. They have taken the Otis Redding trashing of the Beatles’ ‘Day Tripper’ and made it work and their take on Curtis Mayfield’s ‘Move On Up’ adds a cool vocal twist."

'The Hipstamatics were outstanding! Everyone loved them and they had everyone getting up on the dance floor (which is rare for a Gala dinner!). Dillon was extremely easy to communicate with and exceeded all of our clients' expectations. If the venue wasn't closing we would had to of had an encore. Thanks again, Georgie.'

A massive thank you for all your work to make Saturday evening the success it was! We’re truly thankful for all the time, effort, skill and energy you put into performing at the Cancer Society Ball - we loved the band, especially the last set. They know how to create a party! Have a great week, and hope we can work again in the future.
