DESCRIPTION
If you think Dancing with the Stars heart-throb Shane Cortese can dance wait ‘til you hear him sing!
The dishy former Shortland Street is set to unleash his explosive singing talent on New Zealand – one that will have you rockin’ and rollin’ to the magic of Elvis, Buddy Holly, Del Shannon, Eddie Cochrane, Chuck Berry, Ricky Nelson and Gene Vincent.
It’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Heaven – The Class of ’58, featuring all the rock ‘n’ roll hits of the era, performed by Shane and his 16-piece band.
A highlight of the show comes with a 20-minute non-stop tribute to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Elvis. Shane and his big band will tell his story through music, tracking his life from Sun Recording Studios through the movie years, the ‘68 comeback special and Vegas before his untimely death in 1977.
What a lot of people don’t know is Shane has an outstanding pedigree in live rock ‘n’ roll music, having made a name for himself on London’s West End playing Elvis in Elvis the Musical, Ricky Nelson in Rock ‘n’ Roll Heaven, Ritchie Valens in Buddy, Pharoah in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Rocky in The New Rocky Horror Show.

He’s the everywhereman. He dances, he acts, he loves the ladies and is the staple of glossies. Shane Cortese’s life has many parallels to the king of rock ‘n’ roll himself and if you close your eyes during this two and a half hour performance, you could just believe that Elvis never left the building. His voice has that wonderful southern comfort about it that makes women want to throw their knickers and, while this audience was a little more vintage than the one Elvis enjoyed, there were plenty who would have happily traded their big girl Bonds for his attentions last night. They swayed, they clapped and they rose to their feet at least three times as the Dancing with the Stars poster boy morphed himself from Del Shannon to Elvis, to Eddie Cochrane and Chuck Berry. Very few people would have arrived at the show believing Shane could sing. Nobody left believing anything but. A 20-minute Elvis medley that chronicled his life through song had the audience wiping away tears of emotion. This was a tribute truly befitting a king. Backed by a 10-piece brass section and the impressive talents of lead guitarist Chet O’Connell together with a bit of candyfloss in the form of two do-up girls, this show is BIG. A wonderful touch came when Michael Galvin (aka Chris Warner from Shortland Street) unleashed his vocals as one of the Everley Brothers; Shane was the other. Apparently the brothers didn’t get along and nor did Shane’s villainous character Dominic with Dr Chris. Galvin also surprised with his vocal talents. The audience included Mad Butcher Peter Leitch and wife Janice, dancing queen Candy Lane, Pat Rippen, Michael Barrymore and partner Shaun Davis, and agent to the stars Karen Kay. All were frothing about the show after, blown away that the boy who cut his teeth on London’s West End as Buddy Holly and Elvis, could deliver such an entertaining show on their doorstep. Nobody should have been surprised. Cortese is talented and if his only crime is over-exposure, don’t be cruel just love him tender. Thank you, thank you very much!
